Dunloy 2-10 Ballinascreen 2-8
A rather youthful Dunloy side took on unbeaten Ballinascreen and came away with a hard earned 2 point victory. The home side raced into an early 0-3 lead with all three coming from the talented Aaron Kelly.
Nicky McKeague opened the scoring for Dunloy in and by the 10th minute the sides were all square as Kevin McQuillan and Nigel Elliott picked off points.
Nicky McKeague then pointed Dunloy into the lead when he converted a 30yd free and when Shane Dooey opened his account by converting a 65 Dunloy now led by 0-1.
Ballinascreen kept in touch and under the dropping ball they didn’t miss much and when Cathal Brunton caught and fired over the sides were again level.
With just under five minutes remaining Nicky McKeague and Ballinascreen’s Paul Carey traded points to leave the sides all square on 0-6 apiece.
Dunloy then lost Kevin McQuillan to injury and he was replaced by Gareth McGhee and with half time fast approaching Nigel Elliott came bursting through before crashing home a goal to leave the half time score Dunloy 1-6 Ballinascreen 0-6.
The second half had barely begun when Dunloy picked up from where they had left off with Nigel Elliott again racing through and sending home his second goal.
Ballinascreen hit back with an Aaron Kelly free but Dunloy pointed from the stick of Nigel Elliott to restore their 6 point advantage.
Cathal Moran and Nicky McKeague traded points and when Gareth McGhee picked off a 14th minute point Dunloy had now opened up a 7 point lead.
Dunloy’s Nicky McKeague then tapped over a 30yd free but at the other end Dunloy’s defence were coming under serious pressure and an exchange of views between Cathal Brunton and a few of the Dunloy defenders who took exception to his late tackle on Mickey McClements.
Dunloy now were under the cosh and in the 17th minute a 65 came cannoning back off the post and was batted to the net via the stick of Paul Carey. Drama now as Dunloy conceded a penalty but Ger Dixon got down well to save.
With virtually the last poc of the game Conor McSorley ground stroked his sides second goal to leave the full time score Dunloy 2-10 Ballinascreen 2-8
