U16 Football Dunloy 2-14 Rasharkin 3-10
Dunloy v Rasharkin U16 SW Section 2
The young footballers from Dunloy got their league campaign off to a winning start in a local derby with Rasharkin
Dunloy started off brightly and after a couple of easy score chances going astray got on the score board from a free from Daithi McGuigan which was the first of 8 points from the placed ball
Dunloy then rattled the net with a well worked goal with Ronan gooch McCauley raising the green flag. From the next kick out the gooch found himself bearing down on the Rasharkin goal and took a point for the team. Dunloy were on top of their game and Rasharkin couldn’t handle Dunloy’s nippy forwards, conceding frees around the scoring zone which McGuigan converted with ease for the next 2 scores.
This seemed to waken Rasharkin up and they started to exert their physical presence on the game and with 2 surging runs from their midfield and centre half forward resulted in 2 goals for the home team. Rasharkin full forward line chipped in with another 4 points.
With 5 mins of the half remaining Daire Crawley converting a great point with Eoghan McGrath and Conor McAleese chipping in with a point a piece.
Then it was the gooch McAuley to the fore again rifling a savage shot to the roof of the Rasharkin net on the stroke of half time.
Half time – Rasharkin 2-04 Dunloy 2-06
Dunloy started the second half slowly conceding a goal but this seemed to spur the young Cuchullian’s on and they started to dominate the game again. Persistent fouling from the home defence was punished by McGuigan’s free taking bringing is tally to 0_6 with 3 unanswered points.
The home team then got back on top again with 5 points in a row, Dunloy didn’t panic and came hit back with points from McCloskey, McGrath and another free from McGuigan levelled the game. Rasharkin then took the lead again from their corner forward, with time nearly up the gooch found himself one he on one with the keeper from a sweet ball from Rory mullah, the gooch calmly slotted it over to level the game again. From the kick out McCloskey gathered the ball and made for the posts, he was hauled down on the 21, up stepped McGuigan and with his 8th point the game was won!
Great performance from every boy involved!
