U14 Feile Camogie Final Dunloy 8-01 Bridini Oga 1-04
Dunloy 8-01 Bridini Oga 1-04
Dunloy camogs claim the U14 Feile crown for the first time since 2012
The young Dunloy camogs brilliantly out fought and outscored their opponents in a thrilling final in Loughgiel on Saturday morning. A large crowd gathered in Loughgiel for the game and they were not disappointed as both teams put on a display of skill that would grace an adult fixture.
Dunloy were first on the score board when midfielder Caoimhe Molloy fired over a fine point. However, Bridini Oga were causing Dunloy’s back line early problems and forced them into conceding a penalty. Captain Shauna McDonnell stepped up and just fired her shot over the bar to leave the score Dunloy 0-01 Bridini Oga 0-01.
Dunloys defence was now on top in this period and the impressive Eimear McMullan was running the game from centre half back. A well cleared ball was worked into the forwards which broke to Tiersha Smyth to fire home Dunloys first goal. Almost straight away Dunloys forwards delivered a sucker punch of a second goal. Full forward Clodagh O’Kane collected his first of her 4 goal tally.
With the score at 2-01 to 0-01 in Dunloys favour Bridini Oga got themselves back into the game. Aimee Traynor, who had a brilliant game, fired over a point to leave 5 between them. The pressure on the Dunloy backs was again telling as Traynor knocked over another point to make it 2-01 to 0-03.
A score was needed by Dunloy to steady the ship and it was the full forward goal machine O’Kane who found the net. The midfield pairing of Caoimhe Molloy and Kyra Doherty won the ball high up the park to Blaithin O’Kane who worked the ball into the box for Clodgha to fire home.
With Dunloy on top now 3-01 to 0-04 Bridini Oga needed a score and it was the flying forward Aimee Traynor who provided it. Another bout of pressure from the forwards provided a chance on goal which wasn’t missed.
Referee Bronagh McIntyre called for the ball leaving the half time score Dunloy 3-01 Bridini Oga 1-04.
Dunloy started the second half signing their intentions that they were not going to lose the lead by scoring goal number 4. Captain Katie Laverty was in fine form and won the ball in the tackle to deliver it into Katie Molloy. The U12 forward raced through and gave the keeper no chance with her finish.
It was now Dunloy who were well on top and the defensive back line of Orla Stewart, Majella McMullan and Chloe Ross were soaking up the pressure that the forwards were putting on them. Again it was the impressive Eimear McMullan who delivered a long cleared ball which fell to the flying Tiersha Smyth to rattle the net. Dunloy now led 5-01 to 1-04.
With the game coming to the final 10 mins the constant waves of attacks from Dunloy were bearing fruit as the goals kept coming. Clodagh Okane netted more 2 goals along with young Tiersha Smyth to register no. 8.
As the full time whistle was blown it sparked great scenes as the whole Dunloy panel ran on to celebrate with their team mates. A wonderfull performance by our young girls who will now represent Antrim in the All Ireland Feile in June.
For Dunloy Louise Doherty was sound in nets for the entire hour and controlled her box well helped by an excellent full back line. Centre half Eimear McMullan had a stormer of a game and was well served by her two half backs of Sarah McIlhatton and Jessica Blaney. They repelled each and every attack threw at them. The midfield pairing of Caoimhe Molloy & Kyra Doherty ran themselves into the ground and battled for each and every ball.
Dunloys forwards gave the opposition a real headache and their movement and ability to run on the ball was a telling feature. The half forwards did all the dog work to get the ball into the box to provide the chances. Special mention to the full forward line of Katie Molloy, Clodagh O’Kane and Tiersha Smyth who notched up 8 goals between them, a tally that even our senior hurlers would be proud of!
