SW Antrim U16 League Dunloy 4-09 Glenavy 1-13
SOUTH WEST ANTRIM U16 LEAGUE SECTION 2
After a week off our young footballers got back into league action with a great home league win against one of the stronger teams in their section.
This was a tight affair for the first 10 mins with neither team dominating until Rory Mullan split the posts for Dunloy for the home team’s first score, shortly followed up by another 2 points from the boot of Eoghan Mcgrath and Daire Crawley.
Glenavy with their first real play up the field scored consecutive frees to bring the game to a 1 point margin. With Cathair McCloskey and Ryan McFarlaine starting to dominate the midfield area, Dunloy forwards were getting a lot of good ball and scored a goal from the terrier Sean O’Neill and 3 further points from McGrath (1), Mullan(2).
Dunloy were now on top. A forced change due to Conor McAleese getting injured meant he was replaced by Daithi Cree in the full forward line, and with literally his first touch he had the green flag raised with a superb finish. On the blow for half time Glenavy capitalised on a slip in the Dunloy Full back line and scored a fortunate goal leaving the half time score line
DUNLOY 2-6 GLENAVY 1-3
With the hill at their backs the young Cuchullian’s grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and killed off the contest by the 10th minute of the second half scoring two further goals from the boots of Eoghan Tuggy ‘Giroud’ McGrath and Daire Crawley. With fairness to Glenavy they kept chipping away at the scoreboard from their excellent free taker. Dunloy kept their calm and scored another 3 points from Mullan, McFarlaine & Cree.
A great performance from everyone from 1-17. In goals, another sound performance from Padraig McGilligan and in front of him his defence was excellent they tackled and harried their opponents with ferocity, winning the majority of every ball that came their road. Midfield was dominated by the Dunloy men and the forwards slick movement and running off the ball was too much for the Glenavy defence.
FINAL SCORE DUNLOY 4-9 GLENAVY 1-13
