SH Championship QF – Dunloy v Rossa

Dunloy 1-14 Rossa 0-8

Despite hold Rossa scoreless for the entire second half this was not a great display from Dunloy and all to often promising attacks were stopped or broken up by Rossa’s willingness to give away frees and at times Dunloy were blew up for some very easy Rossa frees.

In a wind assisted second half they only scored 0-5 and their performance level dipped considerably from the opening quarter.

Dunloy fell behind to a Rossa point but in the 6th minute Paul Shiels hit the net with a groundstroke as he caught the keeper off his line. Kevin McQuillan and Paul Shiels were tearing holes in the Rossa defence and hit back to back points and in the 15th minute a brilliant save denied Paddy Richmond a certain goal.

Again it was the combination of Kevin McQuillan and Paul Shiels who were to point and by the 18th minute Dunloy led 1-4 to 0-2.
Liam Richmond, Nigel Elliott and Paul Shiels then gave Dunloy an 8 point lead but Rossa hit back with 0-3 and by the end of the first half a Paul Shiels brace left it 1-9 to 0-8 at the short whistle.

The second half Dunloy now gained the advantage of the breeze and in the 3rd minute Paul Shiels cracked a rocket off the underside of the crossbar and the spun out and was hastily cleared.

Paudie Shivers, Paul Shiels and a massive 90yd free from Gareth McGhee saw Dunloy run out 1-14 to 0-8 winners.

Scores Paul Shiels 1-8, Kevin McQuillan 0-2, Nigel Elliott 0-1, Paudie Shivers 0-1, Liam Richmond 0-1, Gareth McGhee 0-1
